I scored a Laughing

. At Cabela’s of all places !

Pro’s:

283XXX serial number – circa 1920
Original Buttplate
Perch Belly Stock
A few Stock dings, not cracks or gouges
No Pits!
Doesn’t seemed to have had the Receiver opened for 2 ¾ shells.
Best of all – 200 bucks ! That is Mossy Territory

Con’s

The barrel is a replacement – it is a 28” Winchester Proof Steel barrel, but is stamped for 2 9/16 shells right behind the aforemention proof steel marking. This is kinda strange I will post some photos this weekend.
Blue is flaking off the recever.

Since I am posting pictures - here are a couple I just got back, from having the wood cleaned up and proper pads installed.

Pretty good for 200.The wood alone will fetch that on a good day,Your gun was rebarreled at Winchester as early as the 50's ,with Re. to the chamber markings it's hard to tell from the pics but it appears to me that they resurected a 9/16 stamp after it had been blued.A pic of the Proof marks would be helpfull.The Address was'nt used regularlly on 16's until 1,283,XXX.Your gun dates to 1922 .All info as per Madis so take it with a grain of salt.A pic of the ejection port would be helpfull as well to determine if it's be lengthened.It's odd that 2 3/4 " shells had been out for 25 years when this work was done.
Funny they would'nt have lengthened it at the time.I don't see a choke marking as well.Perhaps someone could chime in with info per Riffle as I'de suspect a differing opinion.Check the bottom of the barrel for more rework markings they may be buried behind the slide arm,between the mag tube, and on the trigger guard.If you find some whether or not they are blued is important.I suspect at this point this was on the assembly line and intercepted just as it reached the address station.To be fit to a customers damaged gun.These are just my opinions and I am no expert.Just my take so far.Great piece.I'm so jealous Twisted Evil

The barrel itself could have the 2-3/4" chamber, but maybe the ejection port can only handle 2-9/16"? Just a thought.

Y'all ain't gonna believe this - but I took the Buttplate of the Model 12 to clean it up, and found Mr. W L Wilson's 1921, 1922, and 1923 Oklahoma Hunting licenses.

Postoak, is the Daly O/U german proofed? Just wondering if there is a makers name on the gun. Nice looking piece made on the Merkel pattern, as done by quite a few different makers.

Sagerat - it has belgian proofs, made by Masquiller, I beliveve.
