There is a 16 gauge Parker at the local gunshop. I looked at it closely today and it appears to have little use considering it's age. The gun has damascus bbls. that are 28" long. The wood looks good and the checkering has little wear. The serial number is, 83225. I think the gun was made in 1895. The flats had the number 2. It looks like a GH grade to me. It is an extractor gun and is tight on face. Screws are excellent. They are asking $1299. I may offer $1000. What is the approximate value?

The value is highly dependent on the wall thickness and condition of the damascus barrels. There are lots of other things to look at but it sounds like a good buy at the asking price.

Was the number 2 on the flats or the hook?

The #2 was on the flats. The bores looked very good. There was a small dent that went through to the bore but should be easily fixed.

First I thought you were done buying??

If the bore is good and it hasn't been honed out, and the barrels are original length, It's a good buy at the asking price. A steal at $1000.. MDC

Bores look good and have not been honed out. There is a small dent that shows through.

Hunshatt, I will sell it to you for $1100. The $100 profit should cover some beer and cigars.

Unusual for a 16 to be on a #2 frame, which was the frame used for 12g Trojans. 16s were usually #1 or 0 frames-maybe a waterfowl 16?
And BTW, the same 'fine three iron crolle' was used on GH and DH per my 1899 Parker catalog reprint-very high quality damascus, The brl flats were usually stamped 'D 4' indicating the damascus quality, not D grade. If the brls are Twist, which would be very odd and a special order lower grade, the '2' could represent the damascus quality. Please let us know what brls it has Kev.

That sounds like a steal! I'd jump on that in a heartbeat if the barrels are indeed unmolested.

My next vintage gun will be damascus. They are just flat out beautiful.

Revdoc, They are damascus and not twist. When I removed the FE, I could see the black and white pattern very similar to your first picture above. I do not think that the gun has a #2 frame. It is light and petite. I thought that the 2 could also mean GH grade as at that time there was only the VH before it?

Kevin: In 1899, the quality order was P (lowest and available in 12, 14, 16, and 20g), N (10g only), G, E (10g only), D, C, B, A, and AA. Not sure when the V was first offered (gave away all my Parker books Rolling Eyes

Thanks, maybe it is a PH. I once owned one in 12, but it had twist bbls. This has some crude game scenes on the sides and bottom and light engraving around the edges. I will have to dig out some of my Parker books to verify.
