Been doin' a lot of club shooting at skeet and clays, but this Sunday is an outing with my next-eldest brother for some pasture trap. Always a lot of fun. Shoot each other's guns, talk guns and family, rag each other a little bit, etc. It's really cool havin' two bros who are good guys and no slouches with their shotguns.

Guns inspected, dry patch run through 'em, wiped down with a little G-96, proper tubes installed in the guns that use tubes, cases selected, shooting wear set aside. Just need to to get through my last shift of the week tonight at work ... then it's a shooting Sunday with bro, followed by clays on Monday night.

I'm packing light for Sunday ... only taking 3 guns (Verona 501 in 16, Win Model 42 in .410 and the Benelli Supersport in 12) and two bags containing 475 shells. I'm becoming such a wuss in my old age Exclamation

Shooting with family, in the pasture, is always allot of fun.
Over the 4th, I took my 12 year old Nephew and 13 yr old Niece.
I had my 17 year old Son with me plus one of his Buddies who had never shot a gun. I brought 4 different gauges in 3 different actions. 2 cases of clay targets and I don't know how many shells. The kids had a blast, and we didn't stop till the clays were gone. This included several trips into the field to retreive the unbroken targets.

Post-shoot report:

Was going along nicely with the Benelli 12 and the Win 42 .410, but the star of the day was my plane-jane Verona 501 16 gauge that I got right here through this board.

With the new Kick-eez, she apparently fits me like a glove. I was only missing about two birds per box of shells, and was just shooting the inexpensive Fiocchis in 8 shot. This "budget" O/U was originally going to be the backup to my FAIR 900, but I may have to rethink exactly which gun is the backup to the other. This light little darlin' was just hummin' 'em in there today. Very Happy

Looks like I'll have to find another 16 for my eldest bro ... this one's staying with me.

Sounds like fun!

I have not done any shooting lately, and feel like I'm neglecting my guns, and that part of me. Anyone else ever feel like that?. I'm not a regular visitor of a range, but may be at some point. I've just been 'causal' shooting, visiting a range every now & then, and like I said. I have not done a shooting lately. In the last few months, I've moved (bought a house), changed shifts at work, and been working with a bow (I know, crossing over to the dark side). Hey, at least it's not a 12, or even a 20!
Ok, back to the subject at hand. Just last night, I saw my 12yr old nephew (who I've introduced to shot guns, 16's specifically) and suggested that we go out and smash some clays. He promptly and with a large smile, nodded his head vigorsly. We will be taking the 870 youth and the Verona 501, both in 16ga. out for some morning/afternoon fun! Might even invite my brother to come along. His place was recently broken into and guns stolen. He's a little depressed these days.

Shooting with family is a blast! And, I must agree with MFG about the feel & performance of the Verona 501. I love that gun!

Nossman,
I was so happy with how the 501 was shooting, I took it out on our club's little 50-bird sporting clay course Monday night. Used the Win game loads in No. 8. Shot a 30/50. Nothing to write home about, I know, but was very happy considering I'm not really a clays shooter. I'm leaving my 900 w/o a butt pad (just has the hard rubber plate) 'cause it fits so well, but think I'll keep taking the 501 one out more for skeet and clays as the bird season nears. With Kick-eez on it, it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Amazing, really, considering how light of gun it is. I'd have shot another round, but the rain came.
Good shooting,
Mark

MFG,

Sounds good brotha!

The more I shoot the 501, the more I like it. I dont shoot alot of clays myself, but do enjoy going to the range every so often. Out of any gun I've ever bought, I was the most leary of this one. I had held one in a local shop, but let it slip away. I then found this slightly used one for sale, here on this board and snapped it up. Until it arrived at my FFL and was able to take it home and give it a good inspection & cleaning, then to the range. I was still a little leary of the quality of the gun. But, as it has turned out. I have been nothing but impressed with the gun, and it's the gun I reach for. It get's more use/attention than any other I own. And, it doesn't hurt that it's a good looking gun too! I still have the stock pad on mine and will leave it for now. The gun fits like a glove and I really don't notice the recoil all that much, even with the Rem GL 1oz loads. I've been saving my hulls and just received 5K of the Rem R16 wads. I'm going to learn to reload, mainly for clays. Looking at 3/4 & 7/8 oz loads with #9. I'll continue to buy the Rem GL's in #6, for Phesant this season, and to add to to my supply of once fired hulls. Maybe by next season (2009) I'll have the reloading process down pretty good, and reload for all of my shoting needs.

Rob,

Our experiences are remarkably similar. I changed out the stock pad only because it was a tiny bit long for me and I found it catching on the way up if I was wearing a windbreaker. And a windbreaker over smart layering is as about as heavy as I dress even in the Illinois winter. I'm a big ol' boy and have no trouble staying warm once we walk for a 1/2 hour or so. Just lovin' both my Verona 501 and FAIR 900.

(No need to alert 16gg Wink ).
