While on a flyfishing trip to Montana last week, my family and I stopped in Great Falls to visit the Charles Russell Museum, as I am a fan of the Western art as done by Russell, Remington, Gus Schoonover, Irving Bacon and others. I was very pleasantly surprised to see, as a part of this Western display, a number of antique and modern firearms, mostly of Winchester and Browning make-- and all in excellent condition. Examples would include Browning single shot rifles, Winchester levers such as the 1886, 1876 and 1892's and a nice assortment of Browning Auto-5's, including three or four very nice older 16 ga. auto-5's.
While you are in Great Falls, I can also unabashedly recommend that you visit the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, on the banks of the Missouri river, right in Great Falls. Both locations are well worth the nominal entry fees charged.....and--I can also recommend an excellent place to dine in Great Falls---Jaker's Restaurant, on 10th Ave....Happy Trails ! |

Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City also has some Winchesters that Russell did some etching on for some friends of his. I love his paintings but the etched rifles are really special. It's been a lot of years since I saw them, but as I recall, it was noted that he did the work with his pocket knife. |
