I took the afternoon off work yesterday and went on a mixed bag hunt with a versatile dog and a versatile gun - my Pudelpointer and a Merkel 16.
Within 8 miles of home I shot some sharptails, both diver and puddle ducks, a snow goose, and missed (!) some huns and snipe. Kent TM #5's for the water birds, and one ounce of #6 lead for the upland. My dog "Bear" found and pointed the grouse, and retrieved all. I think the Germans knew what they were doing when they developed both gun and dog! It was a real nice day.

Well done Longwalker! Wonderful gun, wonderful dog. It must be great to live in a region where one can take the afternoon off and have access to such good hunting.

longwalker,
Nice job on the aft hunt and I agree with you on both the dogs and the gun.
I don't have a PP but I've got to Drahthaars and a couple of Merkels. It don't get no better.
PS: That PP of yours looks exactly like one of my DDs.  |

That dog ain't nowhere's near looking like your pits. That dog appears to have breeding and class. But his gun do seem like it's turned sideways  |

Thanks for the dog compliments (and I do have another Merkel and an AYA wih the barrels side by each, just not bored 16 ga, alas!)
Went out again today, found a nice bunch of Sharptails and killed a few. it was windy and the birds skittish, Bear had to learn not to approach closer than 20-30 yards or so before pointing. That tight choked top barrel came in handy on a couple of far flushers. One ounce of Kent TM #6 did the trick. |

| Thats one great looking dog. Ducks and upland birds with a great Versitile dog. I can't wait for our Grouse and Duck Season to open the PP is ready to get back to work. I think he is getting tired of chasing the johhny house Quail around. I'll send you a picture of a nice Pudelpointer,some Ruffed grouse along with Woodcock and Wood ducks our season opens Oct 6th. Stay out there enjoying the paradise you live in and pat that dog on the head for me. |

| Longwalker, my brother. Thanks for sharing with us. You're indeed the "Luckyman " in the song. What we all wouldn't give to have an afternoon's recreation with a fine gundog like Bear, and an opportunity at such a mixed bag of birds! My hat is off to you! |
