I have a chance to pick up a 200E in very nice condition, locks up like a vault, nice wood and blueing, the colors are a little bit faded but a beauty of a gun.... So what do you think of these germans of the 1960s??? |

not as nice as one made in the 20-30's, but wicked pissar, as they say in boston. Very nice gun, if you can buy it right. |

Good to know, I agree the workmanship of the early guns would make them prohibitive to reproduce, but for 1600 and change I think it is a wise purchase..... |

I have a Merkel 211/215e O/U 16ga. with an extra set of combo barrels, 16 over 7x57R. It's the same gun you describe but with more engraving. It is by far the best gun I own, fit and finish are superb, and function is flawless. The odd German stock actually fits me like it was custom built, except I need to add a slip-on recoil pad. When I bought it it had two problems - a bent lower firing pin and the lower ejector was also bent from the previous owner dropping it when the gun was diassembled. I had a new pin built, and the ejector straightened, and it has been serving me well for the last two years. I paid C$4000 for my 2-barrel combo with a fitted case and scope in claw mounts, I think for the less ornate engraving and no extras you would be paying a fair price for the one you describe.
My advice, Buy it , you'll like it!
See my post "mixed bag hunt" from a couple of days ago....
and here's a pic if you'd like to compare, Unfortunately the shotgun barrels are not attached in this image
Here's another, after a solo Canada goose hunt I did last October

Mine is a 1951 vintage. Wonderful gun--almost as good as a Marlin 90. |

Got mine in January. It's a bit different from common 200E's in that the engraving is Oak leaves. The gun was originally purchased in Austria in 1951 and had one owner and is in exceptional condition. The purchase price was $1100.00 Canadian$. Love it

Nice buy, and the oak leaves really give it a nice unique look, congrats.....
What are the chokes???? I was wondering if the chokes on my gun were unusual since the older guns were choked tight.. |
