Having recently bought a new Ugartechea 16, I now have wide latitude to try new loads.

This morning I loaded 1 oz. #5 in a Federal hull, 27grs. longshot, 9.5k psi, and about 1400 fps on the Longshot chart. This is the only 1oz. load I've tried so far that crimps worth a hoot in the high capacity Federal hull. It should be a screamer, but I'm concerned about pattern density. Should be an excellent all around chukar/hun/pheasant load with #6's, or the ultimate hun load with 7.5's. (huns aren't too hard to bring down if you can get within range of them). Or better yet, buffered 7.5's. Yeah, that's the ticket! Very Happy

I also loaded 25 grs. longshot in the Federal plastic and Cheddite paper hulls, with 1 1/8oz. #5. This is my magnum phez load, similar to the Fiocchi golden pheasants. About 1300 fps, 9k psi. Crimps excellently in the Federal hull.

Anyone tried these loads before?

I shoot lots of Federal hulls in 1 and 1 1/8 oz. load but not the higher velocity your using. I find loads in the 1150 - 1200 fps range to pattern very good and drop birds well. Get out there and pop some patterns with them loads and lets hear how they look on paper. Only way to find out what a load will do is put it through your gun. Very Happy

Exactly right. I plan on doing so tomorrow at the range. The extra velocity may hurt my patterns, but maybe not. We'll see. What load do you use for the Federal 1oz? Unique or clays or ?

Use a different wad to help the crimps and remember that buffer will change the psi of a given load Wink

I am loading the Federal with 23gr. Herco, SG16 wad, Fed primer, and 1oz. shot. Crimps are spot on. Pressure runs about 85-8600 and 1220 fps if I remember right.
