Hi guys,
I am thinking of getting one of the new BPS Uplands in 16g. I recently purchased a large number of RST two and a half inch shells for my Fox Sterlingsworth. Do you know if such short shells will cycle reliably in this gun? Thanks.

While I can't say for sure, I'd bet they would. The BPS has two arms that raise the shell once it is released from the mag tube. As you push forward on the forearm the two arms go upward and the bolt pushes the shell into the chamber. I can't see why it wouldn't feed properly.

I shoot short (2 1/2") shells in my 2 3/4" A5's with no problems. It should be even less of an issue in a pump.

I do have a friend that tried 2" 12 ga shells in an A5 and they would not work.

Jeff.

Make sure the 2.5's don't run you afoul of any magazine plug rules.

My Ithaca 37 holds five of the Eley 2 1/2 inch rounds in the magazine, and one more in the chamber. You can load the gun and hunt all day!

I think early Winchester model 12 20 gauge guns do the same thing, even with 2 3/4 inch rounds. Both of my examples exhibit no problems.

While I have done the six frounds in a pump thing, it is mostly a novelty to show friends-a gun gets heavy with that much ammunition in it.
Best,
Ted

FWIW I shoot 2 1/2" .410 in a M42 that's chambered for 3", no problems.

Thanks Guys. Trustme, thanks for the headsup, I don't think I would have thought of that. In upland hunting, I consistently limit myself to two in the magazine and one in the chamber just so that I keep a sense of the what is left in the gun when handling it and unloading back at the truck. If that makes any sense.

After giving my BIL a box of RST #5s to run through his BPS on a windy SD day a month ago, I can say that they fed and functioned flawlessly in his BPS. I never pulled mine out of the case last week, but would not have hesitated to run the RST's I had in my pocket if I had.
