I would also suggest an 1150 FPS, 3/4 ounce load for skeet targets and smaller game birds like quail, woodcock, rail, and snipe. These nice mild loads will be just the ticket for shooting a light gun with a hard butt during tee shirt weather.

I too think 700X or Red dot are good candidates for best powder. However Green Dot will probably enter the picture once 1250 FPS is passed. I also think Green dot will be the choice for the low pressure folks who do not pick Unique here. I use it now in my 3/4 ounce card filled R16/Remington GL16 loads. 16 grains is good and does not kick unpleasantly. It also fills the case better and allows a better loading density than 14 grains of RD or 700X. This has become my standard recreational load. it should work nicely with the new wad as well.

Let us know Charles, and thanks again.

Another vote for 3/4 oz at 1150, Unique or Green Dot.
I think Bullseye will prove to be too hot. Every 16ga load recipe that I have seen using Red Dot has been north of 10,000 PSI, and I have never seen a load for Bullseye in the 16. Since Bullseye has a faster burn rate than Red Dot, the pressure will be likely be higher. I see no need to subject any of my guns, modern or vintage, to a diet of high-pressure ammo.

I've used 14.5 grains of Red Dot under 3/4 ounces of shot. It is a mild load at about 1160 FPS. I think the pressure is well under 10K at closer to 9.3 or so. However, it does not fill the case enough for me to get consistant crimps with an R16 wad and two 1/8" thick 28 ga card wads in the shot cup. 16 grains of Green Dot seems to provide a better fill and pressure is under 9K. It also gives very nice patterns for both birds and targets.

Is anyone going to be working up low pressure loads for this new wad?
I'm talking in the low to mid 7K range, at around 1150 FPS.
If not, I'll glading work some up, and get them tested.

Go for it Dave Very Happy . Some 3/4 oz. 2 1/2 inch roll crimped loads would be sweet.

As soon as the wads are available, I'll work up loads for Tom.

Hello Dave :

You will not need to spend any time or money on data , all will be provided for all loads you could ever think of .

And Bullseye will be a powder that will work nicely for us , you shall see .

I'll try to work up an International Clays load for 3/4 and 7/8 oz. I like the clean burn I get with the load I'm using now in those weights. Not as low pressure as you want at 9K, but we'll see how the new wad and larger hulls respond.

The wads are on the way to each person on the list , except Woodcock , cannot read his writing , will have to call him up and get it from the horses mouth .

Ben and I were going over the folks that had helped us out ( research , testing , information , ect. ) that I should send a first run wad to .

I have overlooked one person that did indeed help out and didnt get noticed , that person would be Larry Brown , sorry about that Larry but if you will provide me with an address I will send you a First Run Wad for all your help on the other boards .

I also have sent out a few more to others , you will figgure out just who when you get them.

Thanks to all for all the help .

Regards Charles

I made the decision last night for someone to test 25 of the wads , I chose 16GaugeGuy to do the testing and posting for us , ( He doesnt know this yet , I sent the wads out today )

I would like to see ( now this is just a suggestion , not to be followed if you dont want to ) the 3/4 OZ 13/16OZ and 7/8OZ if you do a 15/16OZ and 1OZ that is your thing I have absolutly no interest in those loadings ( DANG THINGS KICK WAY TOO MUCH ) .

I shall leave it up to you folks and GG to determine what your going to test , also I have no more wads to spare for further testing .

Now to quote the one guy from Blazing Saddles .

" NOW GO DO THAT VOODO THAT YOU DO SO WELL. "

Just watched the movie the other morning and had to throw that in .

As soon as these are available, I'm going to get some from distributer.

How about a load for Universal Clays, should be about the same as Unique which someone else was wanting to use.

Glad I orderd 10,000 R-16's. I guess the loading room will be full of wads.

Where can I purchase the 1 oz R-16 wads? I called Grafs and they no longer carry them. This is a great website!
