Ben,
This is my spreader load, which was tested by Tom A.
Cheddite Paper hull, cut to 2-9/16"
Win. 209 primer
21 grains SR-7625
SG-16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
Polywad spreader insert
ROLL CRIMPED
1145 FPS @ 7400 PSI
I have several 16 gauge Parkers, with Damascus barrels, on 0 frames.
All these loads are shot in them. I try to keep all my loads under 8000 PSI.
Your load should be just fine, being that you reduced the payload, before adding the spreader.
I was able to scan this load data sheet, on to my PC in pdf format, but can't figure out how to uplaod to this site.
Anyone that wants a copy, can e-mail me and I'll send it to them.

Hey Dave, how are you trimming those paper hulls? I made a hull trimmer per your directions in the hull trimming post but when I tried to trim some paper hulls with it things got ugly, but it sure works fine on plastic hulls.

Rick,
For trimming paper hulls, I took the BP timmmer and modified it.
Remove the plastic screw, which causes the blade to wander, and replace it with a wood dowel. Again add the screw for adjustment. With mine, you have to turn the hull counter clockwise when cutting. Works Great.

Rick I made my hull trimmer using a dowel as Dave made his only I made a thin cut half way through the dowel using a coping saw and inserted a single sided razor blade. I think the secret to cutting paper hulls is the sharper the blade the better. Mine works great on paper or plastic. |

Crimps look nice. I love paper shells. I shot a lot of them when I was a kid. You use to hear about how they would swell but I never had a problam but I never let my shells roll around in the floor of a duck boat either. IMHO the big advantage of the plastic hull was when you used a compression formed hull like the AA you didn't have to worry about the base wad. That and maybe a few more loadings, but with any other hull than the AA I always had better luck with loading paper. I loaded the old federal gold medals and had great success. Do you suppose they will ever come back? |

Federal still shows 4 12 gauge gold medal paper loads but alas nothing in paper for the 16 gauge. |
