Hello Folks :

I need some more help here , I need to know the weight of the Winchester Model 24 in 16 ga.

Could someone put one on a digital scale and post the weight for me ??? It sure would be appreciated.

I don't have a Model 24 or a digital scales for that matter, however, I asked Wildwood Inc. this same question about their item # 97696389 on Gunsamerica. 7 lbs. 3 oz.

How does it handle ?? is it lively ??? where is the weight distribution ???

Do you think this model could be lightened up to 6 and 3/4 pounds or less ????

I have yet to get my hands on one , this is why all the questions .

How much are you asking grousewoods ?? With me fair shape is good with me I like them well used.

I have read, and I don't remember where, 16s are on the 20 frame. I had my hands on a 16 with 26 inch barrels several months ago. He wanted more than I thought it was worth, so I don't own it now. It felt good. Very quick, well balanced, and came up real smooth.
I did own a 12 ga. several years ago and it was a hand full. I never put it on a scales, but it was more than I wanted to carry. I got it on a trade and got rid of it the same way.

I have a model 24 28" barrel F/M. It was made in 1941. It seems like it is on a true 16 ga frame, although it could be a 20 gauge frame. I weighed it last year when I got it 6lbs 10 oz on an old postal scale

I will take it to my friend who has a digital scale and double check and get back to you ASAP.

Well I was ready to weigh mine, and found that the scale is junk and can't be trusted. Was all over the board. I've deposited it in the proper container!!

Didn't someone here have a good experience with an ebay seller and their scales? I'm ready to order up a new one and might as well get what you guys are using. Any suggestions?

I always thought a model 24 looked about like two model 37s bolted together.

Svelt isn't a term used in the vicinity of a model 24 very often. Laughing

Anyway, in the interest of a decent using gun, I'd vote Nitro Special, Western Arms Long Range, NID, or 5100 before I went model 24. Those triggers are nasty looking, and the guns are pork chop looking things.

Historically, it seems that it is not at all uncommon for the extractor to slide over the top of the cartridge, making it quite a chore to get the shell out of the chamber. Personally, I would think twice before purchasing one of them for my own use.

I own a 16 gauge, and closely examined a 12 gauge example last month. The 12 gage was noticeably larger in the receiver area.

I enjoy mine, often shoot 20 gage rounds in it with chamber mates. I handles ok, but it is not a $25,000 handmade thing.

My opinion is that it is a good working class gun made in the USA, maybe that's why I like it. I don't own a land rover or a merkel or an engraved Italian whatsit so maybe my tastes aren't as refined as some.

It may be more or less comparable, at least in construction and original price range, to the Marlin 90's that you enjoy. But then I've never researched nor handled one of the Marlins, so that is speculation only.

Your experiences and opinions may vary.

The folks out of OK. is where I got my digital postal scale from on ebay I recall the price to be for the 75 lbs capacity to be like $ 40. it has been a good deal for me have had it for 3 years now and am tickled with the thing.

Thanks for the observations and postings on the 24 I know Olin specifically mandated that a working man's gun be constructed and that is how the 24 came to life , I also understand she is a workhorse and simple to boot , now this is from reading only have yet to get my hands on one , looks as though I am going to aquire one for evaluation and testing.

Sure will be interested when the rest of you folks get a true weight posted for your 24's , this will help me determin if it is of true upland weight or not .
