Just received my 1st 16 gage and also bought a MEC reloader.
I have a few questions on getting started and hopfully someone can point me in the right direction.
1. I want to reload something lighter than 1 oz for skeet w/o wads or fillers. The Remington shell was recommended but alas I can find none. Fiocchi's are available but (as I understand it) this is better suited for 1 oz to 1.125 oz loads. I found some CHED 2.5" and 2.75" shells. Are these any good? I can find no recipes in my Lymans (4th ed). Any recipes out there for this shell?
2. RST has 2.5 and 2.75 loaded shells. Does anyone know what empty shell they use?
3. Any other reccomendations?
4. Will my MEC9000 reload a 2.5" shell? |

5. I joined and paid my $25 lifetime membership but there was also a $9.95 S&H charge. What is the S&H charge about?

#1 All my loads are either 2-9/16" or 2-1/2" so I can't help you with 7/8 oz. loads in a 2-3/4" hull
#2 RST hulls are a Cheddite hull. I love them.
#4 No it will not load 2-1/2" shells, at least my Grabber won't. |

What press do you reload them with? |

2-1/2" hulls are best loaded on a single stage press, using the short kit.
The short kit just raises the hull a 1/4" for the last two crimp stations.
I use the MEC Sizemaster. |

I load a 2 3/4" chedidite hull with 7/8 oz lead. I use a 1 oz recipie and reduce the shot by 1/8 oz and use a 20 gauge felt spacer in the bottom of the wad before putting in the shot.

I also use the 2 3/4 in. Cheddite hull to load soft shooting 7/8 oz. loads. I use a Mec Grabber and add two pieces of puffed wheat on top of the shot before I crimp. When Charles' new wad becomes available it should replace the need for a filler in 7/8 oz. loads in straight walled hulls. The 16 ga. Low Pressure Group has some sweet recipes using Solo 1250 or Unique to produce some soft shooting loads. If you haven't joined yet you should. It's well worth it.
