The weather on Maryland's eastern shore was beautiful, if a little warm for bird dogs. And my first bird hunt was awesome -- I had a lot of fun and did pretty well!

My Model 12 performed flawlessly. And I have to say, I'm betting you guys can relate, spending a few hours following a dog through a field, adding ever so slightly to the smooth, gradual wear on the wood and blue steel of the trusty Model 12 in your hands, well it can make a person bond with a gun, can't it?

We hunted 30 chukar and only three are fending for themselves from the hawks tonight. I spent 24 shells bagging about a dozen birds. Some on the first shot, some watched two shots and kept going. But overall my shooting was pretty good I think. Here are a few pictures from the day.

Not sure if this shows up, but I thought this was a cool shot because of the feather on the receiver and the shorthair's nose visible to the right.

My friend's gun is absolutely beautiful.

Watching the two dogs work together was a real highlight for me.

Eddie: Great hunt and especially great photo's! I really like the shot of the classic model 12 next to the beautiful sxs! It looks like a Spanish or Italian gun? I would be hard pressed to decide which one to pick up for a hunt if I had a choice. SWEET!

I think you're right, I believe that gun is Spanish.

Here's a little better look at it. It is beautiful.

Nice pics, Eddie! Thanks for posting.

I lived in the DC metro area and worked in a downtown DC law/lobby firm for many years. Left the area in 1999.

Like you, I got in a few hunts on the eastern shore. Don't know which preserve/outfitter you were with on this hunt, but looks like you had a fun day. Good! FWIW, my pals and I had some good hunts with Bourbon Brook Outfitters in Churchill, Maryland. Donnie McFarland was a nice guy and a good operator...well set up fields, good birds and dogs and friendly atmosphere. He also does wild goose and duck hunts, but I never did one of those. NO...I'm not in any way connected with them, just passing on a location that was "user friendly" for me and a few pals.

I enjoyed your website. But, don't let too many people know how good the fishing is in the area, or everyone will be onto your favorite spots! Laughing My pals and I mostly fished in the panhandle of West Va. Only about an hour and a half from DC and some nice places to wet a hook! Enjoy!
