I did it myself, however, I am a machinist. That being said, I am not a gunsmith, and would never presume that it would be fine for other guns.
I won't say it was fine for this one! Since it is my gun and I did the work, I will use it with confidence.
I measured at the center of the chamber, and at the end of the chamber as I cut. This was after I measured two other un-modified guns, my model 24 SXS, and my Browning O/U so I could compare the chamber thickness. I measured I.D. and O.D. on all of them.
Once I was finished, I found the new SXS right in between the two, the Browning (newest by 50 years +) was the thinnest, but only .050" seperated themall. I checked my Model 12 as well, but it was HUGE compared to the others.
It was interesting that the barrel I.D.'s were so different between the two sides of the same gun. It has I.C. and Cylinder, and the cylinder barrel was the same I.D. from just in front of the chamber to the end, and was the larger I.D. of the two barrels. |
