I retired about 10 years at age 52. Best thing I've ever done. Hunting trips are the greatest. My first trip this fall will be to Montana for Huns & maybe some Sharptail with my 2 dogs a 5 1/2lb Brit 16g SxS & my pop-up. Can't say how long I'll be gone but 3 or 4 weeks sounds about right to start the season.
Any other "old farts" here want to share your plans & give the yougsters something to look forward to?

Caplock,
Kudos to you my friend. I'll be working another 12 years and be 60 at that time. Would love to retire sooner but not looking to good.
Enjoy and shoot straight my friend.

I retired several years ago and settled in AZ because I'm not a big fan of winter. 70 now and can still get around a little chasing those #$&*#@ gambels quail.

71 years young, can still chase chukar up the rim rocks South Fork John Day River. Enjoy lots of duck hunting, flushing grouse, trout on cane rods, and flying---on my way for another class three flight physical in an hour.

Life to the fullest.

And you should still have much time to go. I just flew my Champ to the Aeronca reunion in Middletown OH this past weekend and the oldest pilot who flew his own Aeronca in is 88 years old.

I'm just a youngster at 61 and have been retired for 6 years. I moved to Montana and have found birds are plentiful enough to keep my locker full. In 2 1/2 months my lab and I will be chasing grouse and getting warmed up for the full season again. Retirement is great and the hunting and fishing makes it heaven on earth.
Best,
Ron

I can retire in December/January, but will probably stay another year or two.....then I'm the hell out of California to someplace normal where the hunting and fishing is good. Can't wait.

caplock - I, too, hope to make the Sharptail Shindig this Sept out in Montana. I plan on hunting out there for just a couple of weeks as I have promised to come home and take my wife up to camp in Michigan's Up for our annual grouse and woodcock hunt. Retirement is good!

Got a couple of years to go if I am lucky. I guess I have to start saving fuel money now. Maybe a 401k-f (f for fuel). Hopefully someone will up the efficiency ante on vehicles. My 10 mpg Dodge leaves me about two states shy of Montana now. Who knows when we will hit $8.00 per gallon. Prices seem to double every couple of years. MAYBE MAIL ORDER BIRDS....

That's great Keith. As time gets closer I'll try to remember to PM you on how to recognize a fellow 16 er. Things go a lot smoother if you keep the chief cook happy.

Good for you TJC. Thats what we're talking about. I've known a few people that worked as long as they possibly could, just so they could be the "richest" guy in the grave yard.

I had med. insurance for the 34 years I worked through the union. I carried it over to retirement but a couple years after I retired the med insurance part went belly up but still drawing a pension. I'm a Vietnam vet so now I use the VA hospital.
