The Upland Spcecial is 24" barrels, english stock @ 14"LOP and a Schabel forearm. Superlight feather is close, barrels are longer, stock is longer.
I have a citori 16ga with 1/2 pistol grip, 26" barrels but cant hit a thing with it. It doesn't fit me evidently. I have an Upland Special in 12 ga that I shoot very well. Would like to have its twin in 16ga.
Have had a few opportunities one and for whatever reason I was too slow or to stupid to purchase them on the spot! |

And the finish is a satin rather than gloss. Keep lookin guys, they are certainly hens teeth, it took me 2+ years but well worth the wait. If you see my name in an obit sometime just look for where they buried me, dig straight down 6 or so feet and you can have mine, but get there before my nephew/godson does.  Mike |

You sure are looking for a scarce gun, Hootch!
Orvis has one in 16 ga for sale on it's website for $1995.00. Probably not a bad deal when one considers scarcity of choices.
It is a consignment gun, so they may not dicker much on price, but who knows??

found it. Looks like a higher grade? My 12ga has blued receiver, this looks like a little higher grade unit. I emailed them to send me the details.

Yeah, you are right. All the usual "upland special" field guns I ever saw were blued as I recall. This one has engraving that looks closer to grade III coverage than anything else I have seen from browning. If it IS a grade II or III design it likely is a "custom" order of some type. If so, the price goes from a somewhat reasonable deal to an outright steal!
If I did not already have two featherweight 16s to chase birds with, I'd be looking at it, too!
BTW, I do not work for Orvis or have any vested interest in this gun, just stumbled upon it after your inquiry and thought you'd be interested.

| Wow, nice peice. Wish they had more pics to look at though. The one I have is all blue, this one must be a much higher grade. That is only the second one I've seen in 3+ years. I could be wrong but I think the last production dates for the 16ga US's were in the 80's. Mine was NIB and I paid just a bit more than that about a year ago. Sweet machines !! Take care, Mike |

Would indeed be outstanding prairie chicken tool! It would serve me well on pheasants, quail and huns too!
Thanks for everyone's input. Waiting on email from Orvis, I asked for more pics and for exact specifications/dimensions etc.
The fact that it just plain looks pretty is just a bonus, this will be a utilitarian gun. |

| That's an upland special . A grade 3 , mfg probably 1988-89 . I think I'm correct in saying that they probably mfg a dozen or less Grade 3 and Grade 6's ever !!! Very rare for a Browning . The short barrel did not sell . However , if you like to hunt Grouse in the thick New England woods , they are great . I do enjoy shooting mine . You have definitely found a good deal .
