For those of you who trim 2-3/4" hulls for conversion to 2-9/16", what length are you trimming the hulls to?
Thanks! |

That would be 2 and 9/16th inches. |

As mentioned above 2 9/16 overall length - actually mine are 2 7/16 because I'm trimming off the split "pedals" from the old crimp points.
Do a search for the dowel/x-acto blade trimmer - very quick and handy - I recommend using a plain pine dowel over the oak as it will be easier to hammer the blade into...
Good luck |

2-3/4" hulls (Winchester HB, Federal, etc.) are typically shorter than the designated length, usually 2.720"-2.725". Fiocchi hulls seem to be a little shorter yet, on average 2.715-2.720".
Allow me to reiterate my original question a little more explicitly: When trimming hulls to 2-9/16", is trimming undersize by 0.025-0.035" typically done as it is with 2-3/4" hulls?
I can assume it is, but thought I'd ask. |

If you have a specific load in mind, trim a couple to 2 9/16" and load them up to see how they crimp. If needed, trim them a little more to get the crimp you want. Shorter does not harm anything.

Thanks! I was looking at the homemade dowel case trimmer earlier, and I was thinking of making something similar but slightly different... |

Made mine from 1/2" CPVC pipe and an exacto blade, works great. The CPVC fits in a 16ga hull like it was made for it, nominal 0.630" outside diameter. |

A sharp pair of scissors works great for trimming hulls. Measure one and cut it after that eyeball them and you'll be just fine. I've cut off a lot of 2 3/4" for 2 1/2" loads and they work just fine.
