I have a 16 bore Francotte round action gun made at the turn of the century. Twist barrels, on face, locks up tight, barrels ring like fine bells.
Some pitting in the bores. I locked it in the lead sled and ran a box of Winchester Super X 2.5 dram 1 oz. shells through it yesterday with no visible changes to anything whatsoever. Might I assume to be safe shooting some quail with the gun this year if I stick to 5000 psi loads? |

If the gun is in good condition - 5000 PSI should be really mild loads, in fact depending upon the gun - 7000 PSI might be OK.
Can you post pictures of the Proof marks on the underside of the barrels ? |
