Okay, then. Lets agree to disagree civilly. Slams and insults should be out of bounds from here on in between us, as well as any direct ordering about. Niether of us has the right to tell each other how to think, write, or anything else. Doing so is just plain insolent and arrogant in most folks' opinion. Otherwise, we will be upsetting the rest of the site. I don't think either of us want that. It will not be tolerated by the moderator either. Thanks.

I have been away for a few days. I have now read all the back and forth and I not sure how it applies to the origianl question.

So let me restate the question. Do any of you Geniuses have a good 7/8 oz load for the Fed hull??

Thanks

Joe

jswanson,

You are right we got off the subject.

I didn't find anything, sorry.

With the new Downrange wad coming soon, just be patient, data will be coming.

You could always take the new wad, add your components and send it off to Ballistic Research, and get the data directly.

That way you could become a genius also.

No genius here just a putz, try page 249 in the 4th edit of Reloading For Shotgunners there are 6-7/8oz recipes listed for the Fed hull in speeds of 1175 out to 1290 with decent PSI's 8.3k - 10k. Also, couldn't you take a favorite 1oz load and back off on the shot to 7/8's and rest assured it's running out at a lower PSI and probably a higher velocity? Sorry if this has been suggested in previous replies I didn't read back through everything.

PM me if you do not have the book. I'd be glad to scan the page. The book can be found on most internet book sites and on Ebay. Mike

My apologies J. Putz has given you some good info. Hopefully, the test of wills between DC and myself is over. It should not have happened in the first place. That was never my intent.

Swanson,
Here's what I've been shooting the last couple times at the clays course, to good effect, at least when I do my job, no question the load works.

Cheddite hull; 2 3/4" (similar in case capacity to Federals)
Rio G600 primer, fairly hot from what I can gather
24gr of Herco
Gualandi 1621 wad
7/8oz #8 Eagle shot
6 fold crimp

Alliant 2004 Reloaders guide has a load listed for paper base wad Fed hulls, Fed209A primer, WAA16 wad, 23.5 Herco, and 1oz of shot doing 1275fps at 8700psi.

Cycles my Rem 11 16ga just fine. Some unburnt powder flakes evident in the barrel after well over a hunnert rounds, maybe not the cleanest of loads or optimum pressures.

I'm confident that my load is at safe pressures with only another .5gr of powder and a 12.5% reduction in payload, even with all the other component substitutions. Comments were made by other experienced shooters/reloaders about speed, "What's that doing? 1300fps?"
"At least", I replied. Reaching out for long birds, it nailed them with authority at 40-50yds with a mod choke barrel.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK/DISCRETION!

Cheers,
R*2

Joe

Forget to tell you to put a piece of puffed wheat on top of the shot for a good crimp. Sorry.

I always use an overshot card. That should suffice don't you think?

Thanks

Joe
