I am loading up some 7/8 target loads using Remington game load hulls, alliant unique and a winchester AA clone wad. I need to take up some space in the wad to get this load to crimp up right. To take up the space I made a punch to punch out Styrofoam disks out of meat trays. My question is : Does it make any difference if I put the spacer in the bottom of the shot cup or on top of the shot? I notice that shot tends to stick to the styrofoam disks in the bottom of the shot cup-I am not sure if this will effect shot string at 1200 fps.

It will make no difference, top or bottom, put it where it's easiest for you.

Put it where ever it is convenient. The styrofoam disc will disintegrate a millisecond after the powder is ignited.

Would you provide your complete recipe, please? I'm loading something similar, but using a cheerio in the bottom of the wad cup.

2 parts rye wiskey
1 part sweet vermouth
2 dashes of bitters
stir with ice in shaker
stain into a chilled glass
add maraschino cherry
oh wait your talking 16 gauge loads

remington black game load hull
winchester 209 primer
15.8 grains unique
winchester AA 16 clone
7/8 once of 8s

There is a similar receipe off the low pressure group data that call for a remington sp hull it says 1210 fps and 8700 psi the data does not mention any thing about a spacer
Must be a difference in the hull I thought all remington hull were the same

So far these loads are crimping really inconsistant and thats with weight each component

The Remington SP and GL cases are the same internally and use the same loading data. The only difference is one has green plastic, the other one is black.

If your shot is sticking in the filler wads, putting a thin over shot card wad on top of the styrofoam will stop that. You can cut some out of a paper milk carton if you want to. Actually, it probably is not hurting a thing.

I suggest you call up Circle Fly wads on their 1-800 number (its on the web) and order some 1/8th inch thick, 28 ga or .50 cal nitro card wads in bulk. A 5k bulk pack will cost you a lot less than you might think. The time saved and the convenience is worth the price. One, 1/8 inch thick card wad displaces an almost exact 1/8 ounce of shot in the average 16 ga. plastic shot cup.

Robp, instead of styrofoam try cardboard. Most corrugated cardboard is the same thickness and you don't get the sticking problem.

The best part it's free from markets, drugstores, etc. That's important if you were born cheap and you keep having relapses like I do.
