I have and shoot a couple of 577-450s and a 577 carbine. With the 450s I use 466 diameter bullets and with the 577 I use 590 diameter bullets. In that way, I can lower the velocity and the RECOIL.
The accurace is GREAT. One of the 450 will keep 5 shots into 1.5 inches at 100 yards.
You making your own hexagonal bullets?

| well Skeettx, i'm 38. i have a 1st gen. PH Whitworth reproduction made in England. i'm an amateur machinest and have made two hex moulds for it one undersized for paper patching and one .001" over bore size. the silly part is i get the same size groups (3-4" @220 yards) with a cylindrical bullet from a Rapine mould. |

| I sent them an e mail asking to confirm what Nick posted, as well as a delivered price for a case of 5k. As is the case for almost all my inquiries concerning this wad, my question (in this instance two full days ago) has gone unanswered. |

Just talked to him on the phone: they do not have product or pricing from Downrange yet. The offer for testing a couple three shot strings is valid, but he said it may be summer before they can get to that with the way they're swamped "with the Obama thing." He asked me to get back to him in a couple weeks, and apologized for not getting back to me on the e mail.

Well folks, I have just gotten a small quantity of the new 16 gauge wad that Downrange is making.
I have loaded it into Winchester Compression Formed, Winchester Polyformed, Remington, Cheddite, and Federal hulls. I loaded 3/4 and 7/8 oz loads. I never had to use any fillers to achieve a nice flat crimp with any of the hulls, with either payload. These wads, are just what we have needed, for no messing around light loads.
I used a 16 gauge MEC Sizemaster. I used only enough wad pressure to be sure that the wad was seated on the powder. I did have to readjust the plunger in the final crimp die (backed it off 3/4 turn). No other adjustments were made PERIOD. I will let you know how things go with my MEC 9000G reloader at a later date.
I will be shooting these loads Sunday, the bulk of my shooting will be with 3/4 oz.loads in the Cheddite hull because if they shoot well, the 7/8 oz. will be a cake walk. I will share the loads with everyone after they have been tested. I will also do a little patterning soon and give the results of that testing also.
Charles Hammack should be recognized for taking on such an expensive and risky proposition and succeeding.
I hope he succeeds at marketing these wads as well, and I hope that all of us will chip in and help.
BTW, my loads crimped as nicely as the picture of the Bill Hanus loads that Charles sent to be tested. |
