Does anyone have a good sporting clays recipe utilizing the new Claybuster 16 ga. 1 oz. wad? I would like to load some #7-1/2's or 8's at 1,250 velocity. Very Happy

Dan, I think you can get quite a few good ones if you reference any of the more recent of the older shotgun reloading manuals you can find. The Claybuster wad is a WW16AA wad clone and can be substituted very safely in any of the existing recipes as long as the other componants are also still available.

Yup, most 1 ounce loads tend to loosen up your fillings over time in a light built gun.

Unique is also good powder for 16 ga 1ounce loads. It has about the same burning rate as Universal (the similar name Hodgedon chose was no mistake or coincidence.) 19 to 22 grains is an approximate range of charge weights that should prove safe in the average 16 gauge hull for most uses. The RGL hull can handle up to 21 grains and it has the smallest volume now.

You can also use Herco as well. it is slightly slower burning than Unique and can be used for even faster loads without overdoing the pressure. the older Alliant and Hercules reloading guides offer a wealthe of info. Some of the more moderate IMR powders are good too. You should consult some of the older Dupont and IMR guides for loads as well.

Older, but well stocked gun shops often have many of these older free reloading guides stacked up in the back room. It never hurts to ask for them. Most of the shop owners will be all to happy to hand then to you for gratis if they can remember where they put them.
