Kevin,
Don't worry about it, it's a GREAT start. Too bad I never use Hodgdon, lol, I'll have to wait for the Alliant data to come in to get a real sense of what's goin' on with it. Looks like a low pressure wad though! I've actually copied it into a .rtf, if someone wants a copy, PM ur addy.
Do you mind if I post the data over on ShotgunWorld????
Cheers!

18gr of PB. Love it!!
Gotta figure the Xpert rounds are the Win Australians, they're a lot easier to get and the pressures are a good deal lower, but there are no guarantees so it's wait for the clarification.
Look forward to patterning results as well from the membership. Theory says some of the BP/Guilandi wads should lose pattern due to short cups and scrubbing, but reality sometimes says no to that. I'm betting the new wads perform at least as well as the Rem/Win wad reloads of the past.

Check out the differences in pressure for a Winchester vs. a Remington Hull!
I just got my wads yesterday, and that type of results are expected in the Remington hull. The DR16 is a real tight fit in the Remington. Not so much as to buldge the Hull, but it is snug.
Looks like a great, well thought out wad. |

I would just like to thank, Charles Hammack and Kevin at Downrange for putting this wad on the market.
It is an excellent product, and it is nice to have folks, listening to the overlooked 16 Gauge community.
Another excellent part of this product, it is made in the good ole USA!!! We need more products like this.
THANK YOU!!! |

Thanks Kevin!
I do have a question though..... Why is the Federal hull left out of testing???? This wad looks like it will load 7/8oz in Federal sans filler.

Hello Folks,
Glad to see the wad is working. I know that Charles has many hours and DOLLARS in this project.
Q1) Why just the Remington and Winchester X-Pert Hulls?
A) Ron Reiber at Hodgdon powder was so kind as to stop other testing to run these. I didn't want to get greedy !
Remember to get and adv. P&V they may have shoot 10 rounds of the same load. Lets see 41 loads at 10 each (all hand loaded) 410 shells. This takes more than just a little time.
I'll talk to Ron and see when I can get them to slide some more in.
Please remember if you are doing shells to have someone test.
You want to send 12 shells for testing. They may want to cut one apart to inspect your components.
Use a bottle of new powder and new primers.
Why? Powder can change after it's opened and stored.
Number each hull and record this. Keep track of the grains of shot, wad weight (Some do this, some don't. I do) grains of shot and the depth of the crimp. This may seem like a lot, but welcome to my world!
HULLS: New / Virgin or Once fired.
POWDER: I always start with a fresh 1 pound bottle. As I want to see the seal and be the first to open it. Record the brand, lot number ect.
Primers: Record the lot numbers
1) Weigh / scale the powder. (ZERO +/-) Do not trust the bushing drop. RECORD
2) Weigh / scale the wad. RECORD
3) Set the wad height the same every time. NOTE: NO POWDER MANUFACTURED TODAY NEEDS WADS PRESSURE.
4) Weigh / scale the shot. Do not trust the bushing drop. RECORD
5) Measure the depth of the crimp
Send a copy of this with the shells being tested. Have them keep the P&V data with the hull number.
Later
