I apologize in advance if this is an elementry question but I feel like i need to ask. I've reloaded 12 ga. 2 3/4 inch shells for a number of years and I've always wanted a light 16 side by side and recently found one that fit my requirements. The chambers are 2 1/2 so I'd like to reload the shells for it myself. My question is, can you use a low pressure 2 3/4" recipe in a 2 1/2" hull or does the recipe have to be specifically for a 2 1/2' shell.
Thanks in advance. |

It's going to be a trial and error kinda thing.
Some 2-3/4" recipes that use a filler will fit in a 2-1/2" hull.
Best is try and find some data for a 2-1/2" hull. |

If you trim your hulls to 2 9/16th inches and use a roll crimp to close the shell everything that will fit into a 2 3/4 inch shell will fit into the 2 9/16th shell. |

If you have not looked into it, I would strongly suggest that you consider joining the Low Pressure Group. They have many, many recipes that will meet your needs. See the info at the beginning of the forum.
Costs $20 to join and was the best $20 I ever spent.
Good luck. |

Twice barrel is on the mark. Find a good 2.75 load, and try it in a 2 9/16 or 2 5/8" Fiocchi (or try the actual 2.5" hull) IF roll crimping you will find most of those 2.75 loads fit in the shorter hull. Especially if data calls for a filler, forget that business, use the shorter hull, about sure it will fit.
Dont worry too much about finding a lower pressure 2.75 load either.
You won't see much pressure difference in the shorter hull. Look at the LPG loading data and even BPI's data and compare the two lenghths. |

Fyi, lots of people shoot low pressure 2 3/4" loads in 2.5" chambers.
Just sayin.' |
