I wanted to try reloading some loads using e3. Alliant does not have any on their site. Is there any available data? I prefer the Fiocchi hulls, but can use any of them. Also, I may make some loads up and submit them to Tom Armbrust, but need a general idea of what to use.
Thanks.

Hello Bigkev :

Tony is correct in being cautious , dont venture in to the 24 , 26 , or 28 gram arena with this powder but it will be suited for the 18 ,19.5 , and 21 gram arena's

I certainly would not exceed 17 grains in the 21 gram load and would look at the 14-16.5 grain area instead .

I think this will be a very good powder for the lighter loads but for heavans sakes dont ever attempt to make it something it isn't , this is a fast powder and you should use it as it should be used ( light payloads only )

Regards Charles

Thanks for the info guys. I have no stake in e3 but have heard good things about it. I have submitted plenty of loads to Tom, so I am familiar with the process. I have a new 16 so I am not so concerned with the pressures. I am looking for a good all around hunting load in 7/8 to 1 oz. with moderate recoil in the 1200 fps range. Maybe e3 is not the answer. I have always liked Int Clays and Unique. I have also heard good things about Accurate's Nitro and yes, I know it is hot, but clean. I shot some loads tonight through my 12 and liked them very much. Thanks for your help!

IMR PB is an extremely versatile powder well suited to the 16. I'm using it for 3/4 oz up to 1 1/16 oz loads. It is also excellent for 27 yard 12 ga loads or backers and Annies.

Kev,

Green Dot IMHO is much more suited, particularly for light loads, and there IS published/tested data for it. I've put over 1000 rds downrange of it behind 3/4oz and Charles" wad.

That being said, I want to try some Clay Dot with the DR16 and 3/4oz.

Tony,
I'd be interested in your extrapolation/opinion of using 18gr of Clay Dot in a 2 3/4" Cheddite with a hot primer, Rio's in my case, and the DR16.

Cheers,
R*2

Hi Gents,

I am new to this website.

There is a fellow hunter from my area that told me about this website and the DR16 wad and 3/4 oz. loads and he uses 17.0 grs. of American Select, with Cheddite hulls, and Winchester primers.

Nice load, I use it in my 16 ga. Citori.

I just wanted to pass along some information.

[[ ShootingSioux]] "If you only load a couple hundred a year, the high cost of PB is a nit alongside the benefits of its nice behavior."

True. But I am shooting a 1925 Ithaca Flues - PB develops pretty low pressures compared to other powders of about the same speed. Cost is not a factor in an old gun like mine.

I have about 4 lbs. of PB, does anyone have any data for 7/8 oz. load with the DR16 wad in a Cheddite, or where I could find the data for that load.

huntNnut,

the current Win xpert hull is a cheddite. Just reloaded a bunch of Cheddites with the PB data from Hodgdon as listed for the Win hull.

Thanks, I will try the Hodgdon website again. I saw the data but, I didn't know that the new Winchesters are really Cheddites.
