I found a box of Green Remington/ Peters hulls over 500 and 1000 old CCI 109 primers. What other hull recipes can these hulls be used in? What Are the 109 primers equal too. or are there recipes using these older primers I could use.

Thanks

Reece

If the Remington hulls are the translucent emerald green type they use the older 57/157 primers. The newer milky green will use the 109/209 primers. I have CCI 109 primers and have been substituting for the newer 209 with no perceived differences.

The CCI 109 is the same primer as the CCI 209 except the flash hole is not covered on the 109. Use them anywhere you see a CCI 209 specified.

The old Remington hulls with a fiber base wad use the CCI 57 or CCI 157. These have the same difference, the 57 does not have a covered flash hole.

The *57 primers are also a little smaller in diameter than 209. I don't think you can cram a 109\209 primer in a *57 primer pocket...just won't fit.

If the green Remington hulls use the 109/209 size primers and have the plastic internal basewad you can use the same data as the current black Game Load hulls.

Just looked at my boxes of CCI 109 primers. They have a covered flash hole just as the 209 does. This allows for powder usage as listed in the latest manuals for 209s. The open hole as in th 57 primers have a limited powder choice. This is to keep the powder flakes large enough to stay out of the open flash hole. The older Lyman manuals give this caution.
Best,
Ron
