I've seen threads that talk about specific hulls to load for 16 gauge, but not one that compare them all. I do appreciate the recent post about Fiocchi hulls.
While I've got Winchester, Remington, and some Federal (steel loads) I reload, I was wondering if I should be purchasing another brand and slowly replace that hulls I currently have.
I'll reload the hulls I've got until they are no good, but I'd rather be building up a stockpile of hulls that will last longer.

Hmmm... I'm a member, paid my dues, and got a great shell bag. I wonder when something will come up that shows I'm a member?

I use almost every 16 ga hull available. Each one does something ballistically different. It is all up to what hunting/shooting situation you have and what you need the load to do.
The Cheddites seem to last the longest and have the most room inside. I like the Federals and Winchesters the best for hunting loads, I use the Remington's more for clay targets, and I have a bunch of Fiocchi's that I cut down to 2 9/16" to use in older Model 12 I have with a short chamber.
Keep them all, use them all. |

Are you sure that's right? I assumed that Federals had the most hull capacity. If the Cheddites do, then I should get some, since I shoot a lot of 2.5" loads and can use all the room I can get. |

uncledanfan,
I filled them all with water and the one that held the most was the Cheddite. |

Hello Uncle Dan :
Yes the Cheddite has the most room by far , then the Federal is next on the list .
Have fun !

shootingsioux,
That is a good idea.
The water came from working with .22-250 brass, way back when. |
