Gents,
Seems to be a LOT of discussion on this one. I suspect I am not alone in being a "gunaholic". May I suggest possibly a subsection for other gauges, reloading, and even rifles and handguns.
Cheers,
R*2

Shotguns come in other gauges? Very Happy

I think it's fine as is. The way I see it; other gauges sneek in on occasion when a member sees it as apropriate and there are plenty of auction sites for the other stuff.

Just my opinion, long live the 16ga. Mike

I don't see the problem with it. Other gauges have been listed here for years and nobody complained. Some when they listed other gauges even mentioned if it was a problem they would take the posting off. Apparently nobody complained till after one gun of another gauge was listed. A roving monitor must have complained about it. If it's the rule now not to allow it, so be it. Doesn't really matter to me, but why after all these years of nobody saying anything?

This poll is open for anyone to vote. That's OK.

But when Doug makes the hard decision, I think he should only consider the opinions of those who are bona fide, dues paying, 16ga Society members only. The ones that thought enough about this website to put their money where their mouth is. The ones who have the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval under their username...MEMBERS ONLY! Trolls and other ne'er-do-wells should not be eligible to cast their opinion.

You can probably figure out how I voted. Question

Very valid point>
There are plenty of places for other guns.

I guess I just feel that the fellow who owns the house should make the house rules.

I agree.

It should be up to the owner of the forum.

Although I have more 16 gauge shotguns than any other in my cabinet; I'm not sure what all the fuss is about allowing other gauges to be posted. The only thing that really sets the 16 gauge apart is the lack of selection in components and ammunition due to lack of demand. I guess that makes us part of a (large?) minority now, but hopefully this pendulum too will swing.

At a point in the not too distant past 16 gauge shotguns were almost as common as 12s in the field and more numerous than 20s. We should remember that the greatest numbers of 16 gauge guns were manufactured and marketed as the best all around gauge for the man who could afford to buy only one shotgun at a reasonable price.

As for the argument that there are other sites for other gauges; there are also other sites with plenty of 16s posted. I think we can continue to differentiate ourselves without being snobbish. I vote for allowing other gauges for sale under a different category...maybe "Not 16 Gauge Guns For Sale"

I say other gauges in a sub-category. I enjoy this site because of it's exclusiveness of the 16ga. I love all other shotguns as well though, I just would like to try to keep it as oriented as possible to the original purpose, I ialso think you should be a member if you post in the possible sub-category, and should be a contributor to some forums as well before you can post. There are some other forums that list guns for sale, but you have to have a minimum of posts/replies before you can list anything. Just a thought. It's all up to the administrators final call IMO.

The only thing that sets the 16 gauge apart from the others currently is the lack of demand for- and therefore selection of- ammunition and components. This makes us a (large?) minority, but perhaps this pendulum too will swing. There was a time in the not too distant past when 16 gauge guns were almost as common as 12s in the field and more numerous than 20s. The largest number of 16 gauge guns manufactured and sold in the US were marketed as an all around gun for the man who could really only afford one reasonably priced gun. Discriminating against other gauges by exclusion from the forum contradicts the inclusive nature inherent in the design of the overwhelming majority of 16 gauge guns.

There are plenty of other web sites for other gauges but there are also plenty of 16 gauge guns posted on those sites. I think we can differentiate ourselves without being snobbish. I think we should allow other gauges to be listed under the category "Not 16 Gauge Guns For Sale."

I think our present system is fine. Leave it the way it is and just enjoy the site.

I think it's Doug's board, he pays the bills, he makes the decisions. He can and should allow us to offer whatever he sees fit. After all, it's not like this is the only place we can buy and sell gun-related goods.
