I was wondering about the CBAA16. Do I remember reading somewhere that it is made a little bigger than the original to work in current hulls or is this one of the many figments of my imagination. Just wondering before buying as I still have plenty of rem wads and think I know where some WAA16 are srill on the shelf. fixing to start on my second thousand DR16 loads, sure don't kick.

I believe you are correct. I bought a bag of the CB WAA16 wads from Gamaliel's about a year ago. As I was curious about the size (the wad was originally designed for CF hulls after all), I called CB and spoke to a Mr. Alan Hensley (very nice guy). I don't remember the exact details, but I know Mr. Hensley told me that they were making the wads slightly oversize, to fit in the straight walled hulls that are available today.

The phone number I called was 800-922-6287 and the email for Mr. Hensley was:

ahensley@jron.com

BTW, he also sent me a sample bag of the wads.

Hope this helps.

Should have asked this before. Since the claybuster can it still be used as a direct replacement or do you use different data?

Hootch.
Check out the spreadsheet for 16 gauge loads on my website. A lot of loads for the WAA16 wad. I just patterned a 1 oz load today using the WAA16 wad and federal hull. Patterned well in my 11-48s at both 30 and 40 yds.

I am going to do that right now. Thanks. I had a brain cramp, didn't connect the CB and the old wad, and after reading more thoroughly, I should have!!

Thanks though.

hootch -

One I like is the RGL hull, W209 primer, 16.5 to 18 gr. Unique (depending on velocity wanted) (mine are mostly loaded with 16.8 gr.) CB0100-16 wad, filler (usually 1 cheerio does it) and 7/8 oz. 7.5 mag. shot.

I've loaded and shot about 300 of these so far this dove season and it's an absolutely lethal load for dove out to 45 yds. I'd hoped to load the same load except substituting a DR16 wad, so I could leave out the filler, but it just didn't fit. 10 lbs. in a 5 lb. bag.

Good luck.

I like these wads, and have been using the load bcpifish talked about, I have probably gone through 1000 shells, and it is a great load.

My rem blacks are breaking down so I am moving most of my loads to the cheddite.

Does anyone have a recipe using the waa16 with win209 and either unique or green dot? 7/8 or 1 oz preferred.

Thanks AjaxFjr

I bought those claybuster wads after talking with them and was told they are built oversize to fit the straight walled hulls. I use Fiocchi hulls and loaded some up. When I chronographed the shells loaded with the claybuster wads - they only chronographed at about 1000 fps instead of the 1600 fps that was intended. I did get the 1600 using my old BP wads. My conclusion was that the claybuster wads are not oversized enough. Have any of you had a similar result?
