I am happy to announce that Brian of New Era Ammunition is introducing a new 70MM , 21 gram load @ 1300 FPS using the DR16 wad .

The first load that Brian sent off for testing by Tom Armbrust came back with the following data .

New Cheddite 70MM Hull ( GREEN)

Factory Cheddite 209 Primer

DR16 Wad

Fast /Medium burn rate powder

21 grams of #8 Mag Shot

6 Fold Crimp

Velocity over string 1261 - 1265 FPS

Average Velocity " 1263 FPS "

Extream Variation FPS " 4 FPS "

Standard Variation FPS " 2 FPS "

Pressure over string 6800 - 7200 PSI

Average Pressure " 7033 PSI "

Extream Variation PSI " 400 PSI "

Brian has since added .5 Grains of powder to this load taking it to 1300 FPS at Tom's recommendations , Tom said this should raise pressures only by 400 PSI , Brian has resubmitted a new string of loads for Tom to test to confirm this adjustment .

Tom and Brian both commented , that this was one of the most consistant loads that had ever been tested with the low pressure and consistancy , Tom attributes this to the way I designed the wad .

Brian will be offering these loads for sale at the price of $8.50 per box in a case lot , " $85 per case ".

This load is not listed on his website , yet he is working on the update with his web designer so just give him a call or drop him a line to place an order .

Here is another New 16 GA . load with Cheddite hulls for us to reload with more things to be coming in the future .

Sounds like a winner for the folks that want to try lightweights without reloading or resetting their equipment.Might have to buy a case just to offer support. When will the one of the big three figure out what many 16ers want, lighter loads that don't kick, unlike winchester game loads.

So lemmee get this straight, Nick...a low pressure 16 ga load reasonably safe to shoot in older guns, that goes at 1300 FPS??? In number 8 shot??

Gotta get a few cases of these! For sporting clays, doves, quail, etc. Very Happy

New Low-Pressure Competition Shell Available
Our 16 gauge 2 3/4" 3/4 ounce 1,300 fps competition shell is now available. It is currently only available with #8 shot, but other shot sizes are available upon request. This load is using the Downrange Mfg DR 16 wad Charles Hammack developed, and is great for dove hunting or sporting clays. The pressure is below 8,000 psi, so it is also a low pressure load.

It retails for $8.50 a box or $85.00 a case. It is not on our order form, but can be ordered by mentioning the 16 gauge Competition Shell by online order form, email or phone. As with all of our shells, it can be mixed with any of our other products to fulfill the case requirement for shipping purposes.
