Spoke with the Wildlife Biologist. They had a good bobwhite population the last two years but he thought this season might be a bust with the very dry spring until the recent rains. IF there is a good second nesting/hatch, there might be decent bob numbers. There is quite a bit of prickly pear along the river bottom and they actually plant cholla up in the hills for the blue quail Shocked He suggested I call back in Sept.

The next time you talk to these folks inquire about the Prairie Chicken population.

The Cimmeron is the last place in the U.S. that has any huntable numbers of Lesser Prairie Chickens.

I think the limit is one per day so they are in the "Trophy" bird class.

Howdy Doc and Brad and TJ,

I have sent in my check for the hunt on Nov. 14 in Montezuma, Kansas, and
am really looking forward to meeting all of you. I called B&R also and let them know the check was on its way.

I will most likely drive up from Dallas on Sunday the 12th, then hook up
with you guys on Monday. Hope diesel is not too much over $3 a gallon by
then.

Brad offered the opportunity to hunt with him the rest of the week, and I took him up on it.

Happy trails,

HHH

Apparently Beau the super Slab has the kat by the neck and won't let go until thudddd mails his deposit. That leaves ONE opening for any of you 'lurkers' out there. Looks like a fun bunch with only one merkel to make fun of Laughing (Just hope we can corral TWO texans Rolling Eyes )

Hey kids. As I'm sure you all know by now I am going to head North
( Beloit/ Glen Elder area) to my usual stomping grounds to hunt after the 14th. Anyone wishing to join me is more than welcome. Great habitat and plenty of it. They are supposed to have gotten much more rain than the West and SW so I'm hopeful regarding bird numbers.
I've got my girl holding rooms at the lodge/trailer set up I stay at up there but only till Sept 1 as the rooms are in high demand and in short supply. I know HHH is coming and anyone else that is in let me know by the end of August and I'll book accordingly.
It's $30.00/pp per day and I am planning on being there from 11/15 to 11/19 or until the dogs give out.

Questions write or call me at 502-445-6371

P.S.- If your shooting one of those Sterlingworth's the daily room rate may be a bit more!

Cheers,
Brad

Way to go Brad. I wouldn't let the Merkel guys off easy either. Especially if they have the lazer sight, or is that standard? Wink

Stay on their asses.

When you get home I'll make sure you get your chance at some big Kansas Roosters with some quail thrown in for boot.

With all the concern about the drought in SW KS this PM from another Forum is encouraging:

Subject: near montezuma
That actually looked like some of the best habitat I drove through, on my way back from Colorado, early this month.

We may have our 8th and last guy-will update when things are settled.

Good Morning Gentlemen.

The Parker Gun Club (PGCA) Board of Directors is in town for the annual club meeting in conjunction with a large display at the National Gun Day show in Louisville this weekend. I attended an informal board dinner and social last night and in talking about the upcoming bird season I discovered that two Board Members had been to the B&R to hunt on more than one occasion.

They had nothing but good things to say about every aspect of the place.

With some cooperative birds it sounds like we are in fine shape.

Brad
