It was recently pointed out we've been a bit stale lately. I have to admit in my 3 years or so around these parts I have never seen a series of discussion on the best of for our gauge. I was thinking of doing a series of questions to the brain trust, but was not sure how to approach it. Should we compare based on action? use? price? Should we do it for recent or current production or throughout the history of the gauge?
I figure nothing gets people talking more than ranking our guns! I know I would love to hear why I should want one gun over another.
Here is my thoughts:
1. Best O/U 16 Gauge Guns of All Time
2. Best SxS 16 Gauge Guns of All Time
3. Best Pump 16 Gauge Guns of All Time
4. Best SA 16 Gauge Guns of All Time
5. Best 16 Gauge Guns Made in the Age of Steel (1980 or newer)
I think this approach would be cleaner than focusing on use. |

Would be fun reading.
Might want to add a few other simple parameters, maybe a field/sport designation for each category and possibly a price ceiling. |

Also have to differentiate upland, waterfowl and target guns in each category. |

I have an idea: Let's don't do it.

Are there enough sporting model to justify a discussion on ranking them? Maybe more along Jeff's process:
top 3 Pumps for Upland
top 3 Pumps for Waterfowl
top 3 Pumps for Non Hunting
top 3 Used or New Pumps Under $500
top 3 Used or New Pumps Under $1,000
Using pump as a example?
Maybe do an action each month so as to not drag it out. Could do one each week? |

I tend to shy away from ratings systems particularly when comparative terms such as best are used. I have some experience with a few guns and can say what features of each I like or dislike and how those features are effective or ineffective. but to relate those comments to other guns, with which I have little or no experience has no value. |

Like I said: Let's don't do it. I prefer blondes myself.

The word "best" is worse than hearing or reading either "hard-core hunter" or "man cave."
Of course....one might make a thread about ...the worst words or phrases heard in the world of guns and hunting.

If this is the will of our brain trust so be it. |
