For the past month I have been shooting my 16’s for Sporting Clays exclusively. Mostly my 1100, but this past weekend with my Citori. A little while back I bought some Muller chokes for it but never really shot the gun much.
I belong to the Hartford Gun Club and they have put together 4 FITASC Parcours. These are serious targets, not just fast and long stuff but targets that are deceptive, long and fast. I used a Muller U2 & U3 chokes with 1 oz. loads of 7 1/2 shot. I was very impressed with the breaks at 40+ yards.
I will pattern these chokes at some point, when I feel like torturing myself, but I have no issue just using them.
The only thing I would change is I only bought 1 U3.
Over the next few days I will get the actual constrictions of the U1, U2, U3.
The more I shoot this Citori the more I like it. |

Both bores in my 16 gauge Citori measure 0.666”. The Muller constrictions are as follows:
U1 - .006”
U2 - .014”
U3 - .024” |

As nice as Hartford was back in the 1990’s, when I was a member, it is nicer now. There is a manager, a front office person, two full time maintenance people and part time folks.
Trap & Skeet are better kept than ever along with the pistol and rifle ranges. The FITASC is over the top. The targets are set by guys that understand how to set targets.
Great place for sure. I am very glad I rejoined. |

dogchaser,
Back in the 70's and 80's it was a real nice place to shoot and we use to have picnic type outings along with shooting. My wife really liked the in door pistol range, she became a very deadly shot. The people were always nice and the Grounds crew were knowledgeable. I shot a heck of a lot of Skeet, this was before Clays was invented. Loved the Skeet range, it was well taken care of and we had a lot of members who shot both on week ends and during the week. Glad the place is still fantastic, you do understand it is legally the oldest Gun Club in the USA.

Back to the subject of Muller chokes. I have been using Miller's on my 16 citori now for a couple years. Some at ATA Some on sporting clays and mainly on games on trap. Many shots on shooting on trap are well over 40 yards. I have never felt handicapped using the 16 on shootoffs . If I figured my winnings probably the games would far out weigh monetarily than sporting or ATA. i have had many 94' yo 98' on the 16 yard and never won a dime on ATA . Friends I shoot with constantly take 30 to 80 dollars playing lewis. On handicap I'm stuck on the 25 yard and still average 92 to 96 . But lewis pays no money to speak of unless your in the 82 to 88 range. To many sandbaggers in that game. Playing games on trap there is no sandbagging. You either do your best or out. Much more fun to me.
My main choke is the Muller #4. |
