Thanks for the Christmas hunt. The European woodcock looks more like a meal. The American woodcock is more of a snack.
Looks like you had a great hunt.
Good Hunting,

He was shooting his Gunmark Sabel 12ga. boxlock, they were made by Pedro Gorosabel in Spain for Gunmark who are the Beretta importers for the UK. His was made in 1974 and has 26" barrels, so it is a great game gun. I was using my trusty 16ga. |

That part of Ireland looks a lot like the Maine woods.... |

Dave the River Maine runs near where I grew up I spent many school holidays messing about along it's banks, don't know if there is any connection to Maine in the USA. Thanks all for your comments, we went out today for our Boxing day outing I shot a hen Pheasant early on then just at the end of our hunt missed a real nice cock bird ,awe well I enjoyed today out with the Jeffery 16ga ,John my son had a couple of chances but didn't connect today. All the best. Once upon a time, years ago, I had a girlfriend whose mother came from Dingle, just down the river from your River Maine stomping grounds. Still had a little house there. But I was talking about the woods of the State of Maine here in N. America.
Glad you had a good hunt. I think my hunting this week is not going to happen as the high temperatures here all week - before factoring in the wind chill - are going to be in the range of -10 C (14F) or colder, with overnight lows down to -20C (below zero F) or even colder. |

Yes Dave I was just wondering if the State of Maine maybe had links with Irish settlers from these parts , sorry to hear your hunting is being stopped by the weather hope it warms up soon for you , when does your season end? |

Thanks for the post wj Jeffery 16. It's always interesting to see photos of hunts from other parts of the world! It also looks similar to the habitat we have here in N Idaho.
I also have a Gorosabel, however, mines not an upland gun, it's a 10 ga gun I used to use on geese. Plain Jane boxlock, but I ran a ton of 3.5" shells through it and it always worked flawlessly in some serious inclement weather. |
