Planning on having a bit of barrel work done on my plain vanilla Model 31, and had planned to have the factory brass bead re-set. I remember hunting with an Ithaca 37 many years ago with the Ray-Bar front sight, and I am not sure if it helped or was a distraction. What do you gentlemen and gentlewomen like in a front sight, given that you're really not supposed to need one if your shooting form and the shotgun fit are right. |

I do not like the fluorescent bars or beads. A plain brass bead or nothing is what I prefer. |

I have always been partial to the white Bradley beads for both hunting and clays.

Appropriate sized brass bead, unless it is an Ithaca and then the Ray-Bar is right and proper.
I never saw a RayBar as a distraction....more like an old friend.
One sometimes just puts up with them. |

My Model 37 has the Ray-Bar sight. Not sure I would keep it on my clays gun but on a field gun that I don't use all the time......I would (and have) left it as it came from Ithaca. |

I haven't used the colored beads, but I find that I prefer the double bead arrangement, with the larger bead at the front of the barrel and the smaller bead mid-barrel. As I raise the gun and put cheek to stock I check my head position by looking down the barrel, if correct I see the front bead sitting atop the mid bead. If so, I forget about the gun, look for the front of the clay or the head of the bird and fire away. I'd guess the RayBar bead could be used in much the same way and would be an assist when in shadows or cloudy days when the brass bead would not show well. |

I'll likely stick with the original brass bead. A fiberoptic would just be too "farby" I think. |

I have more than a handful of M37's. One of them, a 16 ga. 26" IC has no front bead. I don't notice it missing when shooting. Gil |

They do grip the bark on trees rather well...when needed! |

I just purchased a cropped 23" cylinder bore barrel for my Winchester Model 59 (12 gauge). I purchased the barrel for grouse hunting.
The barrel arrived with a Ithaca style fiber optic sight installed.
The day it arrived, I took it to the skeet field. I shot a horrible round, well below my average. At first, i could not figure out my misses. I think that it was due to my eye (I shoot one eye) focusing on the bright orange bead rather than the clay.
The next day, I removed the fiber optic bead and replaced it with a small metal bead.
I tried it with the foot trap in the field behind my house. I had no trouble breaking clays. The following day, I took it to the skeet range. I shot my usual average.
I do not like the fluorescent bead. Your experience may differ from mine. |

Back in late May 2009 I bought a standard weight 20-gauge Superposed New Model Skeet Gun with a broken front bead. Shot a hundred straight with it on Memorial Day weekend 2009 and have never replaced the bead. Maybe I should break the beads off my 12- & 28-gauges and .410-bore!! My shooting buddy who is the Level Three NSSA skeet instructor for the Pacific Northwest wrote an article for The Skeet Review on vision and what a scam those gee gaws on the end of your rib were. Got the magazine in trouble with advertisers!! |

Agree . . . probably the only valid reason for having a bead on a shotgun. |

You can look at the bead or at your target, you can’t look at both. |

I removed the brass beads from both my trap guns marlin 90 and Ithaca 37, the sun would make the bead sparkle and pull my eye off the bird and I would miss. first time shooting trap without the beads, my average increased two birds. |

I would think a bead on a Turkey hunting gun would be OK for a semi stationary target. |
