I reflect back on ten years ago and recall Doug Oliver choking that Pheasant in the Dakotas , having great fun mixed with a little bit of unpleasantries as well , from a couple of sources .
Since that hunt , the wad has made its debut , had lots of fun hunts , made a whole mess of wonderful friends and much more .
Ole Ben always told me that those that cannot do will teach , those that cannot teach will evaluate .
Ole Ben was Senior Administrator for Christians Hospitals with a Masters in Sociology and a Masters in Economics , being an efficiency expert was quite the combination with the study of people .
Ole Ben shared with me a simple thing that I will pass on , he called it the Quiet Smile .
I went shooting with one of the new 12 ga the other day . I shot 3 rounds of Skeet and 2 rounds of Trap , I had 4 boxes of the 3/4 oz reloads and shot real well with them , no problems so I was asked to shoot the new gun another time with a box of 1 oz factory .
I am posting the pic of my shoulder to emphasize just why I built the wad mold , I can shoot my type shells and not get hurt but fill my game bags nicely
I sit back and look at the 3 brand new cases of DR - 16 wads that Mr . Kerr delivered to me at the state shoot and realize that I can shoot Exactly the loads that I want to shoot , how many folks can say that ?
I now know just what ole ben was trying to teach me all those years ago .
I am looking at My Quiet Smile .
regards CNH2

Thinman-
Good to see you post, reflecting on a decade gone by. You remain one of the best shots I have ever known, and I still appreciate your concerns and efforts when you were made aware of my arthritis onslaught when we were at Flatwater. 98% of the loads that exit my 16's are 3/4 oz, and I was thinking of you this spring when I filled four turkey tags with #9 shot.
Good to share your quiet smile.

2016 Standing Rock
Remember this one wild Bill ? Smiling
2017 Standing Rock
I drew 2 cow elk tags on the reservation while we were bird hunting we took time out to process and freeze the cows , then back to hunting birds .
Remember that one Bill ?

Now Mikeeee you know one cannot kill a turkey with 3/4 oz of #9 , shame on you for not telling those birds 😀 .
I am still drooling over that Ole gun of yours , she sure is purty .
I also miss your steaks , sorry I missed the couple years at the Flat water but things beyond my control at the time prohibited my attendance.
That being said , I am glad you are using a sensible load that doesn't hurt you . Mike Jordan of Winchester fame told Ben and I that he could not pull a trigger AT ALL due to shooting all those Trap Loads , he stated that he should have shot a common sense load like the 3/4 oz that way he would be still able to shoot when invited on all those fancy hunts that are being filmed where he has to fake shooting for he cannot pull a trigger.
Hey Mike I might just be able to help you out on your Arthritis pain , give me a call and I will share something I can send you .
Nice seeing you again Mike , hey how is Brent , Rocky and Milton ???
Regards. Nick |

the 2016 pic was when Nick broke out of the 16ga thing for awhile and decided the TOBIN would do nicely .! Unfortunately , we hit that spot last hr of the day on the last day at MOO - all kindsa birds !!! 2017 pic just goes to show that a 3/4 load of nines will take care of an Elk in a hurry also !!! |

You know what Bill , I have yet to miss with that Ole Tobin. Going to have to make the firing pins a bit longer , now if I can only find someone who can do that , hmm will have to work on finding that person .😉
But now I have 8 more sxs to add to the herd in the last month. 3 in 16 GA. No less.
Oh your not supposed to tell what was used on the elk . |
