Damn, when you said you were within a mile of the border, I was hoping you were further north.....up close to the very top of Maine, near Edmunston, NB. But I'm assuming you are much close to the Moosehorn.
I've been wanting to try ruffed grouse hunting in that area. |

Not sure what a small birds body temp would be but it must be around a 100 deg F.??
Hot weather is more tolerable for them than cold. Hot & dry is bad if they are still needing insects for food. certainly not dry around here. |

No chick sightings, but I got the rare treat the other day of having a Mississippi River bluff country grouse in the middle of the road. |

I live in northern Michigan and the last two weeks it's been in the mid to high nineties 4-5 days a week and 80's the rest of the days.
We're only getting 1/4 of the birds at our feeders that we normally have. |

Must have been a Sharptail because I shot the last ruffed grouse in WI two years ago.
Good Hunting,
Mike |

I saw a hen with some little ones and my wife saw a brood as well. Good news I thought with all the wet cold weather we received this spring in Vermont it would have wiped them all out. I have seen several broods of turkeys , although some appear to be from a second hatch. |
