Some fun photos in this thread. I just got back from my first sage grouse hunt. I am not sure if I will hunt them again given their decline, but it was very memorable. They are also very tasty if cooked properly.

Hey all, well today was our duck opener. But, not a very successful one for my son and I. We had plenty of birds come in, prior to shooting time, but like the old cartoon, as soon as it was time, they were gone! Saw very few today, but we did manage to get a couple. Guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.
My birds (2 teal and 1 mallard) and my Bernadelli Italia

Hey all, well today was a much better duck hunting day. Cool, cloudy and a nice wind. Far cry than yesterday. The birds were moving today and I had a great time with my son, just me and him. Boy I'm lucky!
Anyway, I managed to limit out, was using my Merkel 147 today

Jim got 4, but used his Yildiz O/U instead of that pump of his.

This morning at 8500' in SW Montana. A 1600' climb in the mist and hoar frost yielded no blues......

The goose opener was great today. A friend and I started the day only 5 miles form my home, a rare treat. This was to be his first goose hunt and he pulled off a one shot double over the decoys. To say he was pleased is a gross understatement. Some mourning doves that didn't get the memo to migrate added a little extra spice, as if any was really needed. I chose the Lefever 16 and she shined.
What could be better? Well, there is the matter of the afternoon sage grouse hunt. I took the Ithaca N.I.D. on our grouse run since I have only missed one sage grouse with it so far (don't mess with a good thing when it's working!).
I can say that this day was fully utilized and translated into quality experiences and lasting memories. My friend has take interest in purchasing a side by side double and it likely comes as no earth shattering revelation that I am pushing him toward a 16 gauge.

Hey all, went duck hunting this weekend, Saturday was a good day for me. I was able to limit (all Greenwings!) but Jim didn't connect. Today was pretty poor. Not much flying or moving, very quite, Jim got 2 and I got 1. Still, it was great to get out with my son and enjoy his company and above all his wit! A good weekend well spent!

Slipped out with the pups to camp and do a little sharptail hunting. The baby made her first trip, was a good traveler, and loved trying to keep up with her mama. We hunted hard and found a few birds. |

AWESOME photos. Love the pile of geese and doves. Classic. Remind me again, what loads are you shooting in that DS, and how is it choked? I have a guided goose/duck combo hunt coming in November, and I'm trying to decide what gun to bring. My 6lb 2.75" Husky hammer 16 isn't a duck gun per se, but it's choked ic right, briley thin walls in the left, and is such a great shooter with ITX 4's, I hate to leave it home, even though I have a couple Lefever 12's that are much more suited to the task. Seeing your success with a 16 on ducks and big geese makes me want to give it strong consideration. No reason I couldn't bring the 12 Lefever as a backup gun too, or just for variety I suppose. |

It's choked skeet & I/M, barely I/M according to measurements. I'm just shooting 7/8 oz. steel loads for waterfowl. #2' for geese. 7's or 6's for teal; I shot a limit of teal with it yesterday. For "big" ducks I have no reservations about slinging #4 or #3 steel. Realistically the right barrel does very well out to 35-40 yards and the left will clean up geese at 50. Beyond that it is time to either grab a bigger gun or just sit back and enjoy the "bird watching". |

Thanks! I have a bunch of Itx 4's and 2's. I got 4 snows with 6 shots the last time I used them on geese. ITX is deadly. |

Fun opening morning last Saturday. Got a couple peasants and my 9yr old setter and my 123yr old damascus Lefever got a good workout.
