There's some Famous Grouse in the bar!
Maybe I can talk Mark Larson into painting a discrete grouse tail on the stock.
If you're going to go, go big, right?
|
Well--I don't own a Sweet 16, anyway. |

Thanks for the comments from the guy who can never leave well enough alone. I'll bring it up to the Sweet 16 Shoot in St. Paul this spring if anyone wants to try it. I'm sure Cold Iron will have his up there, too!

Are there grouse nearby?
|
Due to the time of year the Famous Grouse in the bar Dave mentioned is about the best it gets. Until season opens then you might find a few grouse in Mn.
That gun really needs to be "Erickson-ed" and converted to a straight grip! |

Yes, it does! You and Jason sure got nice wood on your SW16's! Mine was the dreaded pine plank. Fortunately Slim gave it a dark businesslike look while he was staining to cover up the pistol grip plug. |

Thanks, Erik and Mike.
Mike, I stayed on the open end with SK, IC, and LM hoping one or two would pattern well with my factory loads. My other thought was to go SK, LM, and a tight one for turkey hunting. |

I forgot, I also asked for .004 .008 and .012. But they sent me .004 .009 and .014 instead. Was a little miffed at first they have always given me what I asked for but after shooting them for awhile now... .004 for skeet and early season grouse. And .009 for sporting clays and late season grouse have worked fine. .001 isn't going to make much difference. But the .014 will make a pretty ink ball with a full 1 oz. load. |

Mike, I’ll measure my three tubes tonight. The last time they made me a set they were spot on. Asked for 12 ga. SK through IM and they were 5-10-15-20-26 points.
Another time I had a set of Thinwalls that had been ordered by the previous owner of a used gun, another 16, and they were off the usual norm. The two SK chokes measured .008, the IC measured.013, the Mod was .023, and the IM was .029 |

I asked for the same three constrictions (.004. .008. .012) and I just measured.001. .006 and .011. It looks like I have early grouse and skeet covered! I’ll have to see how they interact with my ammo. I have a good supply of B&P 7's and 6's and other high quality factory loads and I’m betting they’ll do well in these tubes at normal grouse ranges. |

Dave, that weight is reminiscent of the old Franchi AL48 autos built similar to the older Browning action. Nice. Gil |

Thanks, Gil. It will get tested by both grouse and woodcock next fall! |
