What different 16 ga model options have been offered,? What was the first year a 16 was offered?
I know of the following
Grade 1 lightning
Grade 1 superlight
Gran Lightning
Grade 3 lightning
Grade 6 lightning
525 field
525 sporting
Any that I am missing? |

Going on memory here, but 1987 on first 16 Citoris, I believe. I might be a click off, but not much. Mine is a 88 model, code PP type 723, long tang. |

Iirc the first run included the “Upland”, which was later called the superlight. Straight stock and steel receiver, not sure of barrel lengths but I want to say 24”. Superlight had 26 or 28” tubes? |

Yes, Upland with 24" barrels; Superlight and Superlight Feather in both 26" and 28" barrel configurations. 2020 offering of SF had option of both regular Browning varnish finish as well as oil finish. These latter guns - particularly - oil finish - have very nice wood for a field grade. |

a friend of mine, now deceased, bought a citori heritage 16 gauge in about 2012 or 2013...suspect he paid around $5500-6000 for it; when he died, his widow offered it to me, which I declined, as he had left her a whale of mess in general...he had bought about 5 or 6 nice browning O/U's, all citori's, in the 6-9 months before he died at a cost of about 20k...he was depressed, these online auction purchases probably made him feel good for a few days... |

Yes I have a Superlight Feather, 28” barrels. Made in 2010 I think. |

Heritage, with nice wood and side plates
I have one, and it’s the only one I’ve ever seen. |

The Chuck Hawks article is a good Citori reference but it contains a minor factual error regarding the barrels. Chuck says “The barrels are struck full length as with traditional high quality doubles” whereas actually they are monobloc construction (as are almost all modern O/U guns including Perazzi and Merkel) and the lower barrel is struck off only to the monobloc junction point. The difference is merely cosmetic however and inconsequential in use.

I found one for sale currently...$7500. The example you found is a beautiful gun...wow. My buddy also bought a citori privilege 12 gauge, a 525 28 gauge, a couple other beautiful 16's that were "one-off" runs that were gorgeous...and a pair of 525 20 gauges...the latter he intended to keep and use...not sure what he intended for all the others...he took his life shortly after the gun buying spree....lots of other stuff going on in his life. |
