Here are a few pictures of woodcock that stopped over for in Pennsylvania on their way north (plus the dogs that helped us find them).
4 year old Max
8 year old Izzie
13 year old Jackson
2 year old Rynn
3 year old Finn
64 year old Jeff (not a very good pointy dog, but a decent flusher)
Almost missed that one

dap,
Great pictures! Love the dogs and the Woodcock in flight, I have to get back in the woods this next week with my Ryman Setter pup myself. Give all the dogs a pat on the head for me, Well done especially the 13 year old!
Not to worry about the lack of point on Jeff's part, flushing will be just fine!
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave

Great pictures! How come woodcock are never out in the open when you are shooting at them! |

Thank for the Doodle photo essay, great pics!
Need to ask; do you have the camera mounted on a shotgun or long arm stock OR are you taking the shots from a camera alone? I've seen cameras mounted on bare rifle stocks to get "shots" similar to yours. |

It's a standard Canon digital camera with a long lens. It weighs in at about 9.5 pounds (and the two 16ga's I hunt woodcock in both come in at about 5.5 pounds each). |

We were looking for them in the more open areas to better the chance of getting pictures.
We find them in the thick stuff as well.

Great pictures. I saw one in south Jersey last Sunday, but unfortunately I did not have a camera. It flew by me nice and slow out in the open. Even gave me the stink eye! LOL. |

Pretty neat stuff. We don't have those admirable little birds here, I wish we did. Some day I should accept offers from friends to go where they are. I'm happy for all the folks out doing this right now, it's a lot like having a second season. |

WyoChukar,
Any time you can fit it into your schedule, you now have a standing invite to visit Potter County, Pa to hunt Grouse and Woodcock. Around the 15th Of October the Woodcock flight is usually in, at the beginning of Grouse season. Stay at the log cabin with us and bring your Rusty with you. Drop me some e-mail when you can make it out this way, pine-creek@live.com
You are always welcome, bring a couple good double guns with you!
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave
