Need to hear from some of you with more experience than I have on this subject:
I have some friends that there Grandfather was big into trapshooting. When he passed they moved all his reloading components into a garage in the mid 1990's.
They have W209 primers that are still in the original boxes and sleeves. The have been on a bench, not sitting on the floor. This garage is not climate controlled.
I was able to take one sleeve and all the primers look like brand new, no corrosion or discoloration.
I am going to try some primer only loads to see if they are still good.
Has anyone had any experience using primers subjected to similar conditions?
Thank You |

They are most likely fine. Be aware that with "primer only" loadings, one weird thing happens, the primer cup actually backs out slightly upon firing. This doesn't indicate a problem with the primer. |

Morem: I recently got some federal 209’s that were stored in the same place. They were actually rusted. I have loaded probably 700-1000 of them and have yet to have any issues. |

Just load up a box and shoot them. They won’t be dangerous. Primers or powder don’t get more “powerful” if stored incorrectly or poorly. You will know if they are fine. |

One of the guys Woody and I shoot with gave me some CCI109's that the sleeves had faded . OLD !! A sleeve that had been opened had some corrosion , but the others were newish . All have fired nicely in some 28ga loadings . |

Unless the primers have been soaked in oil they are probably fine.
I would load one box first and try things out, better to have to disassemble 25 loads than a whole bunch. |

Just got some old primers from a guy that works with my wife. One k Winchester 3k cci and 1k Remington small rifle and 1k Remington large rifle and some Remington 57 primers. They are from I would guess the fiftys. All look like new bought for 30$ I think,I will just save them they are so neat. But I bet they will be fine. |

I have been working thru a box of a 1000 and have not had any issues. The box was yellow old and faded and some primers were discolored. You should be fine.
