Ithaca 37 Christmas present. The snapshot was taken December 26, 1962. I was 13. The gun was the non-deluxe version, no barrel rib or stock checkering. My dad bought it used. My greatest regret was that it was full choked. I had to let the pheasants and bunnies get a head start lest I blow them to smithereens. The Weimaraner, Tref, was my dad's dog. (he has a bone in his mouth--the only way to keep him still long enough to take the pic) My long-nosed collie, Petro, wasn't much into hunting.
The barrel is blurred cause I just couldn't stop shucking the action. So the orange Raybar (is that correct?) front sight isn't visible either. Taken with an Argus 75 camera using 620 film.
My best Christmas or birthday present ever. Too bad some housebreaker stole it in '81.

If you have the serial #, maybe if you post it we can be on the lookout. It can't hurt to try....... |

That's a great American portrait!
Andy I'll take a "non deluxe" old Ithaca to practically any other gun any day of the week... |

Takes me back then also. The weather I never thought about. I just grab my old 16 Mod.12 and head out the door and sometimes be gone most of the day. Didn't have to ask for premission back then. Everybody new everyone. You just went in a big wide circle until you ended up back home. The only thing was you didn't know when you would get back. Depended on how big the circle.
Still have the old 16. Yep full choke. |
