Longshot seems to be one of the most listed, why not just switch wads. Most of the recipes I have using longshot also call for the BPI wad or the waa16. These wads fit better in the straight walled hulls.

My dad bought me 1000 of the SG16's and 500 fiochi hulls for Christmas. I had the Rem wads leftover from my first attempt at reloading some cheddite hulls. I like the fit of the SG16 in the hull, it is just that in order to get just a 7/8 oz in there I have to fill up most of the shot cup with filler whereas with the rem wads I can add filler but still have all of my shot in the wad.
I would really like to find a solid 7/8 oz load that scoots pretty good with the stuff I have on hand and stick with it. I would use that load for targets and doves and can find RGL's easy enough to hunt rabbits, turkeys and late season doves with. |

If you use puffed wheat/rice or Cheerios just put shot in the shot cup first and then put the filler on top of the shot. the puffed wheat/rice or Cheerios will disintegrate as soon as you pull the trigger so it isn't distributing your pattern in the least. |

Once again, it sounds to me like DC and these other Gentlemen are giving GOOD ADVICE backed up by FACTS! I for one will take his advice and not load these loads. 16GG, I believe the evidence is very overwhelming so BE CAREFUL or you might fall in to the "BLOW YOURSELF UP" category.

Dan, I'm a bit baffled by all the differing info, data, arguments and opinions over shell types, and the loads actually being used to test my little plastic square patch. It kind of reminds me of why the tin star with the dent in it did not actually save the former town sheriff in Blazing Saddles. It would have except for all the other bullets flying in from everywhere.
Frankly, I have a suspicion some of this stuff has an agenda behind it other than safety and reliability issues. If you look at my original post, you will realize most of the negative replies and the loads used to test the patch are pretty far afield from how I stated I use the patch and what loads I use them in as well.
Like I said, folks are entitled to use a blooper patch or not use it. If they do use it, they should do so responsibly and carefully. They can choose not to. Up to them.
I'm happy with my loads and their performance. I've never had problem one from high pressures or safety issues. Of course, I don't just dive in willy nilly and patch any old load to see what happens either. Like any tool, there is a a right time and procedure for it. Anyway, that's how I sees it. Good luck with your reloading. Over and out. |

"....,,,along with the one piece wad. I've never had a properly centered and seated one lodge in the barrel. It will not significantly affect pressure either, but will insure a full strength load.when it's needed. "
The above is your exact statement 16GG, that is a very open statement to make, especially for a guy who has no real experience with interior ballisitics. Leave the actual testing and recording of data to Mr. Armbrust, Hodgdon, Alliant etc. not to the reat of us who have no way of telling what adding something to a load might do.
CYA, after all you have an image and an EGO to protect.
Or is that massage.
Hmmmmmm I wonder if that massage comes with a happy ending.
Self inflicted no doubt.
I know I might be out of line but I have had enough is this asshole!!
Bye Bye!! |

Well 16gg, I suppose I'm one of your resident experts now. Believe it or not there are more people that reload that aren't on any forum on the internet then there are on these forums. That's the way I started reloading. Talking and comparing notes with others around here. You can put your patch under your wads if you like. I relly don't care. I started reloading the sixteen because all they sold at the trap range were 12 gauge. And those were reloads that a couple from a couple of the old members. Nobody ever mentioned to me to put something under the wad. Heck a lot of my loads are for fiber wads. I never even used a plastic wad untill the one other that loaded 16 gauge quit reloading and gave me some sp16 wads and his powders and recipes. So a lot of my information is not coming from the internet. |

Winchester also made a load they called an Expert in the CF hull. It was a 1 1/8 oz. 1185fps load. I still have 2 boxes of empties that I shot up a few years ago plus the original boxes which have the illustration and description of the CF hull on the side of the box. They were low brass with a real brass rim. I am guessing they were made in the early to mid 90's (I also get CRS) if I remember correctly. |

16GG,
Sorry, but I can't defend you on this one. The evidence is too overwhelming. Just make sure you don't become another statistic that the anti-gunners can add to their list of firearms accidents victims!
I will continue to reload from the manual. That way, if I blow myself up, my wife will have a good lawsuit settlement to keep her the rest of her days and maybe even enough to bury me in a real cemetary instead of the backyard. |

Will I not crush the breakfast cereal when I go to crimp the load? These are unfired fiochi hulls and have been requiring a fair amount of pressure to get a good crimp with a nice little "lip" on the crimp like a factory loaded shell. I will definately give it a try. |

Not if your loader is adjusted properly. Be sure to leave a quarter to three eighths of an inch between the top of the filler and the case mouth and you should be just fine. |

I don't think that there is an adjustment for the Lee Loadall. I am looking to upgrade. I cheaped out when I was looking for one and now regret it. |

Don't say cheaped out. You were just frugal. I have 3 loadalls and one mec. I can get just as good a crimp with the loadalls as with the mec. All my machines are older then the hills, but they still do the job. If you think you're not getting a good precrimp with the loadall, keep a coin habdy and place it under the hull when precrimping. I use a canadian penny. I've got a twnty gauge loadal that I don't remember how old it is and it's never been out of the box. |
