Does anyone have any experience with the Ranger XLW glasses? I am particularly interested in that model since it has separate prescription lenses and the colored lenses can be swapped out as needed.

| Been using them for about 4 years, good quality and the lenses change out easily. They include a drawing of the lens profile for an optometrist to use in making prescription lenses. |

OSL using something similar to this. Maybe he will chime in.
I bought ESS system because the nose piece can be replaced with a special piece that holds a script lens and still lets me change the protective/colored lenses.

I'm using the RX Sporter with clear prescription lenses and the tinted clip ons. Works well for me. Guess it depends if you want a wrap around style or a more conventional sporting glass.

As Ashley said, I have been using a similar style of shooting glasses by NYX. They have the interchangeable multi-color lenses and snap-in prescription insert.
They offer a comfortable frame and work well with lots of color variations available as light changes. The price is not bad for the flexibility of the package. Now...the downside...you CANNOT keep the lenses from scratching. Even the foam package they send you to keep the lenses in will not help. A minute speck of foreign material on the lens will scratch heck out of it. They soon got so scratched, they were not worth a hoot.
I finally just got a frame I liked and got the lab at a local optical shop to make me up a pair of prescription lenses with an orange//rose tint and a GOOD lens scratch coating. Not a perfect choice for every shooting situation, but close enough and I don't have to shoot through scratched lenses.

Just to clarify, are you saying the prescription lens or the tinted outer lens is easily scratched? I am assuming it is the tinted outer lens.

Unfortunately...BOTH.
They are made of the same light plastic material, and there is currently no lens coating for them that can be employed and that actually works. I still carry them around as a back up to my regular glasses, but take it from me, your shooting and your wallet will both be better off to just go to a good optical shop and buy yourself a pair of prescription glasses in a color that will work for most shooting situations. I learned this the hard way... |
